This thread is for planning Battle for Strathclyde 2011. Last May we had 30 people in attendance. I would love to see 40+ this year.
Anyone have any ideas to start things off with? What worked really well last spring, what could use improvement?

hey!
I think some more objective/roleplay type games would be cool, rather then just the typical free for all, kill the killers, and such. stuff like a big area would help with this (forest would be cool too) i can try and think of some games if you wish.

I like the idea of a big area game. I'm thinking like a more covert mission where a small group has to make it through a large area being patrolled. If they can sneak around they won't have to fight as much but if they are spotted then all the guards come running. A rescue mission would be good for this type of game. A small group has to rescue several prisoners which involves moving into enemy territory and also making it out alive. Several people guard the prisoners and the rest are out patrolling.
An ambush scenario would be a lot of fun too. One team has to transport a sacred object safely to a location but on their way they get ambushed.
Would it be held at Big Hill Springs again or somewhere else?

I agree, some kind of longer scenario would be fun. I am not sure we have enough people to have a 2 team scenario that lasts much time though. It might work better to have a small amount of non competitive type players to make it work out better.
For a lame example, troll hunting. 5 players are trolls, when they are killed they give their killer a brad tag as a token proof, they go off a rez themselves. The trolls are not playing to win, but acting more like fighting heralds who keep the game moving.

Both dates should work for seeing as Otafest won't be till after that but will have to see how my team fares at our provincials or else i will have to scratch the 7th off.

Any opinions as to were we should hold it?
I would like a location with a big wood wooded aria so we cha hold a big 2 bace capture the flag woods battle (with the bases 600 feet apart).

Should we hold this at Big Hill Springs again? Or look for another park?

I stopped by this park on the way back from the Amtgard event the other day, and was really surprised. From the air it looks like a boring flat field with some trees around it. It is actually on a big hill, is a mix of woods and open, hilly and flat on the middle. I really liked it. It opens to traffic on may 1st. maps.google.ca/?ie=UTF8&ll=51.374526,-114.005964&spn=0.005786,0.014999&t=h&z=16

After WAY to much headache and time waisting thinking it over I have decided to hold it at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park. THe location was just flat out fantastic last year, it still fits us, people know where it is, its on a map. Only down side is we may not be able to have a big woods battle. I will try and make a scouting trip there some time to see if I can find a suitable location for such a battle that is out of peoples way.

Ok, proposed scedual: lh5.googleusercontent.com/_Tx2DG5sym-k/Tcb2hsgUKpI/AAAAAAAAEEo/McYBs94BPro/s800/Screen%20shot%202011-05-06%20at%2012.41.41%20PM.pngThe lower field is right by the parking lot and an open grassy aria, the Upper field is a gently sloping field in the frees with a cliff on one side (sounds way more dangerous than it is). We may or may not actually use the picnic aria but it is at he bottom of the cliff by the upper field. The "sticks" game is basically capture the flag with 20 or so flags. victory is achieved when all the sticks are in one base. This will be a large woods battle where the bases will not be visible to each other. I am not %100 sure of its exact location. What are your thoughts? Feedback please.
