T nuts allow you to have the safer side of the bolt exposed as I have done on my round shield. Not sharp at all.

thats looking like a great shield. and the T nuts sound like a great material to use, ill try to use it next shield i make.

nuts and bolts for holding on the straps yes, anything more... probibly not geddon.org/index.php/Constructing_a_Strap_Shield if you need a constuction guide. Cib, has/had a way to attach the straps with out using nuts/bolts, but i dont think i will be able to discribe how on here.

I have been looking for a type of handle for my sheild like a solid hand grip to mount on my sheild. Im using a trowel handle with washers behind to extend it out for grip, its doing the trick but im trying to find something better for my hand held grip.

Find some good leather, or think rope. Then bolt it through and put the washer side on the inside of the shield.

above is your best best, an old belt can work too.
