Two sword tip blowouts on my swords today. My swords keep coming loose from the core at the top. Then once they are loose want to leave the cozy box of foam I have generously placed around them. Why are cores so ungrateful? I searched some threads on the national forum and I think I have some good ideas for improving. I think I will just build things that are not square from now on. I'm also going to make it a point to visually inspect my weapons after every practice to make sure minor repairs don't become major repairs. Lesson learned... I want to build a flail anyway.

That was kind of a dasaster month wasn't it. My mini shield broke a strap and 2 of my swords are broken cause of the core. I think that they should have square pvc pipe it woulod make things easier.

I might try square fiberglass later but for now I know I can touch up my technique a little by adding some extra tape(quality tape this time) to the flat of my blade near the tip. I will also repair the core right away as soon as it separates from the foam.

I just finished re-gluing the cores of the 4 weapons I built recently. It was REALLY easy to peel the layers apart from the contact cement, (thus why they fell apart the first day.)
I think the problem was the temperature when I glued them. It was only 6 degrees at the time. The glue seemed to hold, but it wasn't nearly strong enough because it didn't soak into the foam.
I used super 90 spray glue at 10 degrees this time and I hope it holds up better.

I also re-did one of the handles adding a lot of wire wrapping. That sword now barley passes the 12 ounce test. I'm going to be re-doing the other 3 handles whenever I can convince myself to.
If anyone has a weapon they think might be too light, my scale is portable so I can bring it to a practice. (But it's not very rugged so I'll only bring it if I know ahead of time it's needed.)

I have found recently pvc insulation that makes the core square. It was at home depot last month i hope its still there because i would like to see if it better to build weapons that way. its very thin so you would still need foam on the side to make it safe but it adds so much more strenght to the core because of the surface area. All you have to do is glue it to the core an say good bye to core detachent.(At least for a longer period of time)
