So with Justin in the ranks I think Cochrane might have an official practice soon. That makes three Cochrane members. I'm still in the process of seeing who else might be interested. In the next few weeks I'll try and arrange an official practice with Mog, who said he'd like to come. So Mog, what day and time works best for you? I'm thinking a Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be good. An evening practice would even work because the sun is setting later and later.
I'm not going to decide on an official name yet. I think we'll decide as a group.

I'm up for either Saturday or Sunday. Early afternoon works slightly better for me than evening as I occasionally have something starting at 3 or 4 pm on weekends but I'm pretty open.

There are 3 or 4 people that are interested including myself so far. My friend Steve is the newest member. I'm ready to start scheduling a potential practice. Mog, does Saturday, April 10th at 2:00-4:00pm work for you? 1:00-3:00pm could also work. It would be nice to have a few of Cib's weapons like a spear, red axe and a flail just to have a good variety but I don't know if I would be able to bring the weapons back the next week. Once we are established I will eventually have a second practice during the week in the evening.

I don't have anything else planned that day so either time works, but if we are thinking of a regular time 1-3 works slightly better for me.
I might still have Cib's weapons on the 9th as I'll be at both tomorrow's and the 9th's Airdrie practices, but we would need a way to get them back to him as I won't be able to make it to the 16th's Airdrie practice.

If you leave stuff with Dave maybe he could get them back. I don't mind lending out some spears, got lots of those laying around!

Yes, I could bring the weapons back for the Friday the 16th practice in Airdrie. If I can't make the Friday then would get them back to Cib during the week before the Friday. So you'll have all Cib's weapons? That will provide a nice variety. I'll be sure to invite as many people as possible. Mog you can feel free to see if anyone from Calgary wants to carpool with you to Cochrane. The more the merrier. On that note anyone from Airdrie is welcome too. There is a giant park near my house with lots of people driving by. I think that's where we'll have it. I'll post the final decision in the next few days.

Okay I decided on the Cochrane Ranche for location. maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=51.195936,-114.480001&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=18&sll=51.195233,-114.479948&sspn=0.001869,0.004823&ie=UTF8&ll=51.192712,-114.479299&spn=0.014954,0.038581&t=h&z=15 You can take highway 1A all the way from Calgary to here. If someone from Airdrie wants to come then they can take Big Hill Springs Road then turn onto Hwy 22. Look at Google maps and you'll figure it out, pretty simple. If you need to get ahold of me my home number is (403)932-4704. It looks like Saturday will have great sunny weather but that could change in five minutes. I say unless its blizzarding out and -8 that we'll still have it as long as a few friends can show up. We can meet at the parking lot and then walk to either of the fields close by. I had three friends interested so I hope at least two can make it. If this works out we'll see about doing it again.

I have invited eleven friends so far. We'll see what kind of response I get. It's a little short notice. I hope to make a few more calls tomorrow. If I can secure some key social players then we'll get off the ground no problem.

Well that was a huge success! I think everyone liked/loved it. At the peak we had seven people total. Great weather, I'll see about having a mid week practice while I have all the weapons. Thanks for lending us the weapons Cib! It was great to have all of them!

(In falsetto)Whoopsie. Well there is the Facebook group for whoever wants to join it. I just made it today. A few people were interested in making their own weapons which I was glad to hear. I would like to see the group be self sufficient as soon as possible. I'm sure not able to make as many weapons as you did Cib. It will work much better when everyone pitches in. I think this group is going to grow a little more in the next few practices. Friends of friends will be hearing about the fun we had today. I need to help get weapon production going but the only equipment I have made are swords and shields. Cib do you have any pictures of what your javelins look like without a cover on? That would help me a lot. The diagrams on Geddon.org aren't always the easiest to read. Maybe I should try a carpet tape sword.
And we'll see who can come to Airdrie with me on Friday.

Remember, no Airdrie Practice on the 16th.
There really is not much of a cover on a jav, they are just covered in tape and a rag on the head. They are exactly the same as a spear, only built on a lighter core, with a softer head and full haft padding (no handle).

Cochrane's second practice had four people, it was on a Wednesday evening so I didn't expect as many but it turned out okay. It was super windy yet warm. Our third practice is this Sunday from 2:00-4:00pm. Looks like we'll have another good turn out. It's at the Cochrane Ranche again, anyone is welcome.
