Morning Ladies n' Gents! We are starting up a realm just outside of Vancouver in BC, undecided on a name as of yet (though we'll most likely be Sparta) I'm currently posting as Thaddeus on the belegarth.com forums, but doing a name switch already! Anyways, we're just working on getting a website set up and I'll have to make this a hasty introduction as I am doing it on a work computer! Any advice for recruiting would be great, I am excited to be getting back into the game! I'll post more tonight. Ciao for now

Sweet! Keep us up to date on how things are going and let us know of any ways we can help! Any chance you will be going to Chaos Wars? Also, where exactly outside of Vancouver? Let me know and I will make you a sub forum here. And if you haven't got it already: resourcestore.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/newrealmkit/

Going to try my hardest for chaos wars, but I doubt I will be able to make it because of work. The recruiting is slow, no results from craigslist yet. What would you say the best category to post under would be? We are located in New Westminster, and I just got a chance to look at the realm starter kit the other night, really helpful for sure.

lol, your location is right there in the thread title! I posted on Craigslist, as did Clagary but we can't find our listings anywhere by searching or browsing. Have you tried Kijiji? The best recruiting is really just getting out there and doing it with a few friends in a high traffic aria. When people stop to watch, ask them if they want to try it out, that is the most effective form of recruitment. Edit: Also, I never said welcome! We are glad to have you!

See, my problem is lack of time. I really just want to get the realm started and hand over the reigns to someone who can commit a lot more time to it. I run two store locations for a family business and I work 6-7 days a week so it's hard for me to go out and do mass recruiting campaigns. I did manage to get my local gamer store on board for having flyers on their front counter and they said they should know some people who will come out to a few practices. I posted my ads under groups in community, I am just going to continue reposting it every few days, hopefully it will get seen over time. I'll try out kijijii tonight.

Well there are several people left over from Dagorhir's Mountie Militia floating around...
The more info you got....the better to be able to hit you with a foam covered stick....

Balancing time is always tricky. I recommend thinking about how to make it work if there is no one to hand it off to for a wile. Maybe you need bi-weekly practices? Then you wont starch yourself to much, and once you get a group together, if they want to meet more often, they can set that up. You don't need to have massive recruiting campaigns, just a regular practice (with regular location and time). Starting is the hardest, if you can get one other person (more is better) to commit for a short period of time that is often enough to get things off the ground. Walk by's and drop in's are where 90% of growth happens. Also, I have a contact from BC who might be interested in helping you, see here: www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=269420708605I am currently trying to figure out in my aria who to switch from a practice culture to a event and ad-hock practice culture so there is less stress on realm leaders. I have quite figured it out yet.

Actually, now that I think of it, I think according to he book "Battle Gaming: The New American Sport" That is pretty much how Dagorhir started wasn't it? Events, not weekly practices, but monthly or bi-monthly "Kill, Grill and Chill" type events. Hmm...

Ryker, We used to fight together! I was far too young then and fairly prone to hit you in the head. I just ran into Buttons a couple days ago. It's Mat from Bonson Park. How many of the guys are still around?

That's ok, Ryker found his way here (FaceBook is over rated). Somehow I missed that he had posted before me.

there are a couple of the old guard still around plus several people who found the yahoo group and others that have moved into the area looking for an existing group.
There is also a bunch of guys in Chilliwack looking to create a Dag group (soon as spring fully arrives and they break out of the winter doldrums)

Well Ryker if you want to meet up soon that'd be great, I am supposed to be getting every Sunday off starting next week so that is hopefully when I will be starting to hold practices. If you have any of the other guys' contact info could you get them to come on here or pass my e-mail address. I've got a pile of weapons and nobody to smack right now!

I put up links to this forum thread and also the webpage you posted on Craigslist, so they should be able to get a hold of you one way or another. sites.google.com/site/newwestminsterbelegarth/homeBut if YOU set up a time and place I can post that as well...

Awesome, sounds good. As I said, I find out this week if Sundays are going to remain my day off. If it is, I will be holding practices from 12-4, and I was going to consider getting peoples opinions on which park. I was thinking either glenbrook ravine, queens park or Hume park. They are all pretty easy to find. Hoooopefully that means we will be starting next Sunday!!! I'll pm you on here when I know ryker.
