Calgary practice times and locations

With the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer I'm thinking of starting up practices again. At the end of last year's season we were getting poor attendance so I'd like everyone's feedback on what times and location(s) would work best.

I'd like to help but Airdrie is all I can do right now. Distance is the biggest factor. I want to make the drive more worthwhile by bringing more people. It's best if I work on a Cochrane group first, then I could bring a few people with me to your Calgary practice. I'll see how much interest there is one month from now and go from there.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays I have other commitments, thus will not work for me.

Saturdays are very hit or miss, I may be able to make a few but I will certainly miss at least half of them.

Mondays and Thursdays are both open; of these two Monday would be best I think.

As to when I can start I am unsure, I want to make some of my own weapons before attending practice. I plan on having a sword or two in time for the event in May, don't know what April will look like.

Location is the real issue in Calgary--its big and if you want to attract people then smaller size practice in various district locations is the way to go.

I would like to come to some... I have a few people interested, and have a few passing weapons i could bring... Thursdays don't work, nor sunday really... as for location, I'm in the NW but anywhere in the top end of the city works...

I work 9-5 Monday-Friday but I'm willing to drive anywhere in the city if we can get a decent turnout.

I don't believe the NW will have enough people interested, so far my friends (even the ones who love to spar in my yard) don't show any interest... I have 2-3 ish people who would but it's not worth it in the NW as far as I'm concerned...

What needs to happen for practice in Calgary to work?

I'm willing to go to a weekly Calgary practice and bring my 9, (10 if I get my claymore fixed) weapons if I know at least 1 other person will show up each week.

Once we have a regular schedule it will be much easier to recruit more members and grow the practice to decent attendance. But we need a few people who are willing to seed the practice so newcomers have something to try and get hooked on.

Zamisk would you be able to convince your friends to meet once a week at a specific time so we can advertise it to newcomers? Preferably in a city park rather than your backyard, but if you have the room, and are willing to have newcomers show up I guess your backyard might work.

Ruscfast would you be able to setup a south Calgary practice with your group? If we can get a time and location nailed down that works for at least a few people every week we can grow from there.

I'm thinking of trying Monday's around 7-9pm at North Glenmore Park for the South Side of the City.

The small field by location "A" would be my first choice with the larger field at the green arrow the alternative.

P. S.

I just sent an e-mail to another friend who I know lives nearby (walking distance), has expressed interest in Belegarth (his father used to do more intense--real weapon--Medieval reenactment); but has thus been unable to attend yet. Hopefully once he gets a swing at it, he'll come regularly, and between the two of us form the core.

I should be able to make it there Ruscfast. Is that close enough to Randvar that he'd be able to make it?

It's still quite a distance from where he lives but he said he will still try to come anyway.

That's part of the reason why I sent a message to my other friend, though I haven't heard back yet. However I did talk to Johnny (who was at the event) and he said he should be able to come.

I've added the south Calgary practice time and location to the schedules site. (Cib can you do something about the colour of links on the belegarth.ca site? They are invisible on the white backgrounds that about half the site is made of.)

I am working on it, I have to basically re-build the site but unfortunately progress is very slow as I am in the middle of a project launch ATM.
