Those are all awesome. It looks as if some of them would not be that hard to make.

Some wouldn't be to hard to get to the right form. But from what I understand, the most "basic" leather helms I posted, as in most of them, are made by one guy, who, apparently has mad skills. I think though, from what I understand, its the finishing that take the work. So the little details that make it look nice, like the die job, and beveling the edges, etc.

yeah, that probably would take allot of work. When I make my helm it will be maid out of metal. What do you think the differences are between two? As far as work effort I mean.

I am planing to make a steel helm, actually. Steel is harder to work with, takes more time... harder to make safe (for you and others), harder to make comfortable. It is however, or at least can be, cheeper to make from scratch though. I expect my helm not to work actually. It is rather ambitious, me having none of the right tools, and most importantly, no dish form.

Thats why for right now I am going to stick with my helm that I have already. I am giving it a new coat of paint because it looked to much like a WWII helmet. Because I do not now of a paint that looks like metal I am painting it black. I think it will look OK when all is said and done.

If you want to get a more "medieval" feel, you could add a second color to the helm. Medieval patterns that feel medieval a simple and colorful. For instance, painting exactly half the helmet yellow or a thick blue stripe of to one side. Just make sure the lines are "hard" and striate and precise. For ideas check out this wiki article on shield heraldry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heraldryen.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeraldryIf my helm turns out, I am going to paint the red triangle you see on my avatar across the front. And all the trim red as well.

Hmmmm, thats definitely got me thinking. Even if I added a small and simple design to the front of it, it would spruce it up a bit. There is one other thing that bugs me about my helm and that is the fact that I cannot simply wear it like a hat. I have to have those cheesy straps to hold it to my head.

Well in that case I think I will be able to do alright as far as looking authentic.
