Hi Folks!
I met a few of you on Sunday at the Calgary practice so I just want to introduce myself a bit more!
I am the Owner of the Alliance Calgary LARP chapter. Our LARP is brand shiny new for Calgary although Alliance has been around for about 20 years. This LARP is "High Fantasy" so akin to D&D or Lord of the Rings.
Alliance is just starting off here in Calgary and we are already gathering players and NPCs. We have a PLOT committee that will steer the LARP in a direction we would like to tell our story in (of course players have a way of throwing a monkey wrench into the gears and we encourage that!). Our first event of 2012 will be in February with a one night adventure called the "tavern". We will be following that up in March with a Masquerade and April will see our final Tavern.
In May we begin our weekend events at the Lions Youth Camp (between Carstairs and Cremona). These events will run until October when we will resume our tavern events throughout the winter.
We have a couple ways to find out information about us: www.alliancelaberta.ca or on Facebook
The basic information:
We use foam boffers (same as you folks) for combat. There are "packets" used for arrows and magic spells.
We are in game the entire weekend. There is only two OOG (out of game) areas and that is our commercial kitchen and the bathrooms at the camp. You sleep, eat and play in character all weekend.
We have a ton of safety rules to ensure players remain safe during the weekends, but as accidents do happen all players must sign a waiver of liability.
Players must be 18 years of age to play in the LARP. This is again due to insurance and safety reasons
You need to provide all your costuming and gear. We can help you build it, but it is up to you to supply the materials. You can pay to get your gear built (and lots of players do) as well. We can point you in the right direction to get your gear.
There is a yearly cost of $40. This puts you under our insurance and helps us purchase props and NPC items to make the experience as immersive as we can.
There is a weekend expense of $60 to cover the rental of the camp. Also there is a food option available. $25 gets you a breakfast on Saturday and Sunday plus dinner on Saturday night.
So I think that is enough rambling for now. If you have any questions, please post them on the Facebook page or on the Forums that we have through Alliance (there is a link on our website). I will try to look into this forum often, but I cannot guarantee a rapid response. There are a lot of us on FB that can answer questions faster.
Cheers!
