I was visiting a friend in Ventura California last week and was able to check out the local realm there. So I thought I'd share a few observations and comparisons since it was my first U.S. realm experience.
Their core group that day was about 10 with a total attendance around 20. There was some nice garb and armour. Their loaner weapons were mainly blue swords without stabbing tips and one shield, but if you asked you could probably borrow someone's weapon for a round or two. Combat felt the same as in Airdrie. There was only one javelin and two rocks there but they had two archers. I only saw one spear. The main combo was sword and board. The hits felt the same. I noticed their stabbing tips are much thinner than what we usually do.
The names I remember are Talon, T Bird and Squirrel, maybe you met some of them at Choas Wars.
One thing that I got to see was a bit of their ranking system. It was testing for level 6 I think. The player had to win 4 duels in a row against one of the vets and then another 4 against a different vet. After that he had to survive 1 minute against a player with infinite lives(with a couple seconds of "reset" time after each death). He managed to stay alive for 30 seconds. I found this interesting since we had been talking about ranking systems a while ago.
Overall it felt pretty much the same as Airdrie practices except with a larger number of veteran players.

Thanks for sharing Dave! The practice I went to was mostly just stand and deliver the hole time, but they maxed out at 8 people that day. Defiantly was a bit more relaxed and less structure, people coming and going, one game the entire 4 hours.

For different perspectives, if you get a chance, consider visiting Anduril, farther south in Irvine. They've been recruiting like crazy and have been drawing 50+ practices. Farther south in San Diego is Andor. While their practices haven't been quite as big, around 25-30+ fighters, they have a larger contingent of veteran fighters.
