April or early early May are looking like the best dates for me (I will check with all the calendars latter today I hope), we should set a date. What dates work best for you all?

For example, last year we could say it was Calgary, and Chorine could host it at Big Hill Springs. Are you referring to Cochrane? I have re-thought my Big Hill Springs idea because Belegarth needs a fairly flat surface for it to be safe. I think there would be too many tripping hazards in an actual forest. Having tree obstacles would be fun but also a hazard to weapons because trees trunks aren't totally smooth and could rip covers or foam. So it might not be that great of an idea. There is a really nice park there though, the Cochrane Ranche, it's a huge place with forest, cliffs, stream, fields, shade and public exposure. Here's the Google maps for it: maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=cochrane+alberta+canada&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=38.638819,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Cochrane,+Division+No.+6,+Alberta,+Canada&ll=51.196168,-114.479599&spn=0.003738,0.009645&t=h&z=17 This is the main area for public events but it goes way further North if you zoom out. Here is a map of it with the different terrain features labelled: fortressterrain.webs.com/Belegarth/IMG_4040.JPG I was thinking that if you could time a Belegarth practice to start just as some public event is ending then you'd have hundreds of people walking by. You did get something like that with the Centennial event.

chorine |ˈkôrˌēn| noun a chorus girl. ORIGIN 1920s(originally U.S.): from chorus + -ine 3 .
oops! lol.
Big Hill Springs has 2 small fields, one on the south side of the parking lot. One above the picnic tables west of the parking lot. Sometimes the size of the venue can make a big difference and with out size, small may be better (it can makes it feel bigger oddly enough).
When is Cochrane's Centennial events? It looks like Cochrane Ranche is at the bottom of the big hill down in to to town, is that right?

Would Cochrane like to officially be the 2010 host (more for the record and location, we would all still work to make it happen)?
What do you all think of my proposed dates?

Yes Cochrane Ranche is at the bottom of the big hill. Cochrane must be older somehow because I'm pretty sure we already had our centennial.
Cochrane would love to host the Battle of Strathclyde 2010! I just hope I can rally an army in time.
Big Hill Springs sounds good then.
I'm going to vote for May 15th so I can have my birthday on the 8th and break out the foam weapons and see who's interested.

Actually maybe it would be better to try having my party on the 14th then I could invite people to the event the very next day. But then they might already have plans for the next day. I don't know.

So it would look something like: Cochrane hosts the Battle For Strathclyde 2010 at Big Hill Springs May 15th!
I will send out some e-mails tomorrow and see if I can get some more feed back from people on that date.
Another thing to consider, is that according to the farmers almanac fog means rain latter, according to that we could have a very wet spring. I don't think Big Hill Springs has a shelter does it? We would need to bring umbrellas for breaks.

Now we need to approach the delicate issue of age minimums. Officially in the BMCS hold an event the minimum age is 16, this results in most realms and events held by realms and other belegarth groups also having a 16 age minimum (There are only 2 events officially set up by the BMCS the rest are set up by realms and individuals). However, I feel like the Airdrie Realm (currently our largest) is the majority under 16. So the question is, do adjust the minimum age of our regional event (for a few years until the age bracket shifts) to match our current demographics? If not, how will that effect potential attendance.
The average age of the members of the forum is: 18.9
We have 31 members on the forum, I don't think it is necessarily an accurate representation of our actual active membership on and of line though (some our from outside alberta or not active anymore), here is the brake down:
14 14 14 15 15 16 16 16 17 17 17 17 18 18 18 19 19 20 20 20 20 21 21 22 22 22 23 23 24 24 26

Secondly, how do we get as many people to this event as posable?

I think: -personally inviting people -handing out small cards with all the event info to put on fridge(so they don't forget) -build some hype(let's make this even bigger than last year's event!) -if they are younger, make sure the info makes it to the parents(communication to the ride giver is important) -work on recruiting now so new people will be fully introduced to the game by event time -posters, yelling on street corners, email spamming... -get friends over to your house for some other type of gathering and then get them to try some Bel afterwards -go to all kinds of public areas and have practices in areas with high foot traffic
If someone aged 14 wanted to come I'd let them.
